Ah la vache, c'est un projet qui traîne dans les cartons de Don McGregor depuis des années, genre 2002, quoi… Je dois avoir l'ashcan du truc, dédicacé, faudrait que je trouve la date !!!

For those of you have been to the site before, you know there has been a ZORRO: MATANZAS! FOUR ISSUE MINI-SERIES in the works for FIVE YEARS!

The comic has a long, complicated history, but it was finally going to see print in September 1999! I'm updating this page now because low sales figures for the book put the printing on hold. The current plan, as far as I understand it, is to print the series when the next Zorro movie is released, which means, you should see it about , oh, say in 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY!
It was a little dis-spiriting to have spent so much time and energy at the San Diego Comic Con promoting the book's release only to return home and learn you folks wouldn't get a chance to see the book! We were THIS close! Three weeks close to the book becoming a reality! Three weeks and counting!
So now, it may be SEVEN years, at a minimum before you get to experience that story. Let me tell you, this book has beautifully intricate, exquisitely rendered art by MIKE MAYHEW that I know Zorro fans will love! Let me expand upon that, that people who love comics will love! Anyone who has seen pages of it have been startled by it's powerful story-telling, and its eye for detail. They don't make a whole lotta comics like this these days!
There are lush DOUBLE PAGE SPREADS, FULL PAGE SHOTS OF ZORRO in action, and it truly IS the series that CHANGES ZORRO'S LIFE –FOREVER!
That wasn't just hype!
On top of that, I was working closely with colorist SAM PARSONS who was doing a full water color effect over Mike's pencils, that would capture and enhance the art, create the tonal ambiance for each sequence.
And now, who knows when you'll get to see it!
ARGHHH!
If ever there seems a right place for such a screeched lament, I guess it would be this.
But you know what we're going to do up on the site here.
We're going to let you see some of that FINISHED ART! Some of that SUPERB COLORING!
Each week, you click onto the MATANZAS! SPLASH PAGE (shown above) and it will take you to some INTERIOR PAGE of art.
And when UPDATES occur, you WILL learn about them here.
You'll also see some of the reactions from people like JIM SALICRUP who was the man who gave me the chance to do this series that would change Zorro's life forever!
So, come on back and check us out!
And write us! It's just like the letters pages in the comics, folks! I want to know what you think of what we're doing, not just in the Zorro site, but through-out Don McGregor.com.
I've always treasured the response from the readers.
I'm a storyteller. And the storyteller is glad that for many of you…these stories meant something!
