God Save the Queen n’est pas qu’un hymne, c’est également le titre d’un graphic novel écrit il y a un bout de temps par Mike Carey (c’est fou comme ce mec enchaîne les projets) pour le label Vertigo de DC Comics. C’est la partie artistique qui a retardé sa sortie pour le mois de janvier 2007 : le grand John Bolton dessine, peint, et mêle au tout des photographies. Beaucoup de boulot.

Ce récit est avant tout un conte, centré sur une jeune fille londonienne et sa mère, qui vont se retrouver dans l’univers féérique de Sandman, le titre le plus connu du label Vertigo, avec l’apparition de personnages comme la reine Titania, Oberon, Puck, Nuala, Cluracan et Lucien le libraire.

C’est la seconde fois que les deux artistes développent ensemble l’univers de Neil Gaiman, puisqu’ils avaient déjà produit The Sandman Presents : The Furies.

Que j'avais presque oublié, d'ailleurs. Carey fait en général d'excellentes choses, mais The Furies me laisse un arrière-goût lourdingue et rasoir — je ne sais même pas si je l'ai terminé. Faudrait que je retrouve et que je révise...
