SALEM : QUEEN OF THORNS #1-4 (Chris Morgan & Kevin Walsh/Wilfredo Torres)

Une équipe de scénaristes toute droit sortie d’Hollywood se lance dans le comic en faisant leurs premiers pas dans les stands du Comic-Con de San Diego. Chris Morgan (Swat, Cellular, Fast and Furious 3) et Kevin Walsh (quelques boulots pour Dreamworks, et Warner Bros) s’apprêtent à publier Salem : Queen of Thorns, une mini-série en cinq parties.

Reprenant les grandes lignes connues par tous (les procès des sorcières de Salem en 1692), les scénaristes s’intéressent à une véritable sorcière, qui échappe à la potence, la monstrueuse Queen of Thorns. Un homme cherche alors à la retrouver et l’empêcher d’atteiendre le pouvoir absolu. Cet homme, c’est l’ancien prêtre Elias Hooke, qui s’était longtemps opposé aux méthodes inquisitrices de l’Eglise avant de la quitter. Il sera aidé par un jeune prêtre et devra retrouver sa foi afin de vaincre la sorcière. Un peu d’Exorciste dans le pitch ne fait pas de mal.

Salem a d’abord été un mini-comic de 12 pages en noir et blanc livré comme preview promotionnelle au Comic-Con. Les créateurs l’ont publié à travers de leur société, The Conspiracy Factory (aucun rapport avec une autre Factory qui a fait les joies de ce forum durant un temps).

Mike Hawthorne (nominé aux Eisner pour on boulot sur Queen & Country, The Unmen) se charge de la partie artistique.

Depuis Lovecracft et King,le mot " Salem" a été utilisé pour vendre tout et n'importe quoi,esperons que ce ne soit pas la chronique d'une daube annoncée :D

Je trouve que ça fait un peu fourre-tout, comme imagerie. Là, je vois du Masque du Démon et du Green Man de Kingsley Amis, en plus des divers clichés sur les sorcières de Salem. Bon, il faut voir ensuite comment ils accommodent les ingrédients, mais d'emblée, ça me laisse un peu flasque.

Annoncé lors du San Diego Comic Con 2007, la série limitée Salem: Queen of Thorns sera publiée par BOOM! Studios. Premier numéro en novembre.
